With over 300 photographs and comprehensive text, Dance Music and Ritual in Manipur is the first in depth English language book focusing on the indigenous folk performing arts of Manipur in Northeast India. Written and photographed by Byron Aihara, the project has received the support and blessing of the most respected elders and performance artists living in Manipur today. Research assistance include Oja Khangembam Mangi Singh (Padma Shree), esteemed Maibi (shaman) of Manipur Ima Dhoni Amaibi, LAIHUI (Manipur center for traditional arts), The JN Manipur Dance Academy, The People’s Museum of Kakching, WAHPS Wildlife and Habitat Protection Society of Manipur.
